Nathan Portelli (b. 1988) is a visual artist from Gozo. He holds a degree in History of Art from the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Malta.
His deep connection to his homeland and his concern for humanity’s impact on it are the primary influences in his work. Portelli currently works primarily with cement, a material he uses to engage with the ongoing challenges to his nation’s identity, and its natural and cultural landscapes—challenges driven by shifting societal priorities. He engages with these reflections through the very material that continues to dominate and reshape his surroundings, exploring both its possibilities and limitations as an artistic medium.
Portelli lives in Gozo and works between Malta and London.
